Professor Kabir Bala, a professional Builder and a professor of Construction Management, was born on January 7th, 1964 in Kaduna. His late father, who he says is his role model, had insisted that every member of the family be enrolled in both Islamic and western schools from age four. Today, his family can boast of producing a registered nurse (RN), an accountant, business administrator, medical doctor, a scientist, historian, an engineer and an Air Force officer among others. Kabir Bala was versed in the Hadith from a tender age, which earned him the name ‘Malam’. Students protest over traffic accident in Ondo

Students of the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo in Ondo State on Tuesday, protested over a traffic accident involving three students of the institution on Monday night. It was gathered that the students who were returning from the school were seriously injured in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital. According to an eyewitness, the accident which occurred at the Catholic Church junction along Ore Road was caused by the recklessness of the driver of the car. He explained that the driver of the car immediately took the three victims to the hospital and said the three students were discharged from the hospital almost immediately. The source, however, said some students of the institution took to the streets on Tuesday morning to protest the accident and blocking some routes leading to the school. An American college student who was released from a North Korean prison is finally home but in a coma and undergoing treatment at an Ohio hospital where he was taken shortly after arriving on U.S. soil. An airplane carrying Otto Warmbier, who is from Ohio, landed in Cincinnati late Tuesday night. The 22-year-old was then taken by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Warmbier was serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor in North Korea for alleged anti-state acts. US student Otto Warmbier is hospitalized in Cincinnati after he was returned from North Korea. His family says he’s in a coma. North Korea sentenced Warmbier to prison after he admitted trying to steal a propaganda banner during a trip there. 62, 140 candidates to write supplementary JAMB July 1

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said about 62,140 candidates will sit for the supplementary Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scheduled for Saturday July 1, 2017. Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja. The JAMB boss, also announced the cancellation of results of 59,698 candidates that sat for the main UTME, saying another 24 CBT centres have been suspended for one year for failing to live up to expectations. He said the Board has blacklisted 48 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres over their involvement in extortion and organised examination malpractices during the 2017 UTME. Those that would sit for the supplementary UTME include the 3,811 candidates who did late registration when the main examination was ongoing and 683 who had biometric-related issues. Bayelsa state governor The Bayelsa State Government has paid the balance of the fees for its scholarship students at Lincoln University in the United States of America. A statement issued in on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jonathan Obuebite, said Governor Seriake Dickson gave the approval for N250 million, which has been remitted to the Ministry of Education for transfer to the university. According to him, even though, the students have all graduated, as a responsible government that is ever alive to its responsibilities, the governor gave the approval and equally ensured its remittance to the institution. Mr. Obuebite explained that the delay was as a result of the economic down turn, which drastically affected the finances of the state government, but was quick to express the appreciation of the governor and his administration to the authorities of Lincoln University for their extreme show of understanding in the whole matter. According to a statement issued during the weekend by its Director of Public Relations, Bose Aderibigbe, NYSC said: “The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to an online statement, which claims that the 2017 Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) Orientation Course has been scheduled to commence on 24th June, 2017. “We wish to state that the information is false and, to say the least, misleading. “Management assures Prospective Corps Members and other stakeholders that the date of commencement of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) Orientation Course will be made public through our official channels in due course.” It could be recalled that the NYSC had earlier said that the 2017 Batch A Orientation course for stream I, which commenced on Tuesday, 23rd May will end on Monday, 12th June, 2017 nationwide. Nearly 30% fails Nigeria law school final exam.

The Nigerian Law School has released summary of the final examination results conducted from April 22 to 28. The Director-General, Nigerian Law School, Olarewaju Onadeko, made this known in a statement on Saturday. He said that 2,125 students participated at the examinations while 1,393 were successful. According to him, candidates with conditional Pass were 196 while 596 failed. A further breakdown of the results showed that candidates with Pass accounted for 65.6 per cent, those with conditional Pass represented 6. 4 per cent, while those who failed were 28 per cent. Mr. Onadeko said that the ‘Call to the Bar’ ceremony for the successful candidates will hold on July 13 in Abuja. The result is the worst in at least one year. The August/September 2016 law school examination recorded 17.8 per cent failure rate. A similar examination conducted in April 2016 recorded 23.6 per cent failure rate, as 709 candidates out of 3, 056 of those who sat for that batch of the final examination, did...
